New to Pickleball? Here’s a Quick Rule Rundown

Brought to you by TomCostaPickleball.com

Whether you’re just starting out or need a refresher, here are the must-know basics to keep your game sharp and fun:

1. Serve It Up (the Right Way):

• Underhand only, paddle below the waist

• Serve crosscourt, behind the baseline

• No bounce before you hit it

2. Double Bounce Rule:

• Each side must let the ball bounce once before hitting it in the air

• After that, volley away!

3. Respect the Kitchen:

• No volleying (air shots) while standing in the No-Volley Zone

• You can step in if the ball bounces first

4. Scoring Simplified:

• Only the serving team scores

• Games to 11, win by 2

• In doubles, each team gets two serves per side (except first serve of the game)

5. Faults to Avoid:

• Ball out of bounds

• Ball doesn’t clear the net

• Stepping in the kitchen on a volley

• Double bounces on your side
